Chez Bong

December 06, 2010

My second post about Korean BBQ in Montreal! This time, I went to Chez Bong which is located in the middle of Chinatown.

I really liked the decor and it felt way more clean than its surrounding restaurants. Also, Chez Bong is one of the most popular Korean restaurant in town.

I started the evening with pork dumplings to accompany the Tsingtao, a Chinese beer I had ordered.

I was really impressed by the dumplings! The pork was juicy and the dumpling paste was very light and tasty.

The sides included with the BBQ special were also served at the same time: two types of Kimchi, sweet potatoes, spicy chicken soup and rice.

We then moved on to the BBQ and I decided to go with the traditional beef flank. They brought a homemade BBQ set-up to our round table and put me in charge of the meat.

It was so far my favorite meat marinade, which was sweet and just a bit spicy! The beef was cooking quite fast from the sugar on it and with the white onions added, it was a perfect BBQ dish.

Conclusion: Chez Bong is my new favorite location for BBQ. It’s the real thing and I had more than a great time. It also looks more clean than the other places I have tried but they should work on the back of the restaurant where we are led to for the bathrooms as that section is no fun.
